What would you not enter a classroom without?

I'm wondering: what's most the most important thing (anything: concrete or abstract) for teachers here to have with them when teaching an English class.

Me, after 5 years at it, I wouldn't walk into a classroom without a language focus, a properly staged lesson (plan), a bottle of water and, if at all possible, at least 8 hours sleep the night before.

How about other people? What would you not walk into a classroom without?

Cheers
Daniel

Re: What would you not enter a classroom without?

Good question Daniel.

I usually can survive 40 minutes to 1 hour without water.

Definitely wouldn't walk into a classroom without a lesson plan. I have gone into a classroom in the past without a lesson plan, and it's obvious that the lesson then was way below quality.

A watch is also necessary for me. If there is no clock in the classroom, no other way to really know when to finish and start winding down the lesson.

I agree...Definitely a watch... but then again, I feel naked without my watch at ANY time.

I wouldn't walk into a classroom without a backup plan !

I always have a basic lesson plan with the necessary materials for THAT lesson... and a few other ideas or materials which I probably won't use but have the option to use if needed... example, the first activity ended faster than expected or if things don't pan out as expected and I need a quick change of pace... all-engines-stop ! and pull out the backup plan.

Hi there,

As well as a lesson plan I'd have picture flashcards and language practise games so that everyone in the lesson has a chance to speak.

I pretty much always have at least one song too.
Music really enhances learning in my view and lifts the atmosphere.
