Re: Volunters

  1. 4.5 years
  2. Meeting new people all the time and sharing life's experiences with each other.
  3. Travelling to and from work. Sometimes I travel 1 hour each way just to teach 2.5 hours. Also hate teaching boring students with no personalities. Like teaching a rock how to speak.
  4. Teach students that are located closer to where I live and make it a rule that if students don't make an effort, then they shouldn't expect teachers to make an effort.
  5. Paid transportation and health insurance are the only fringe benefits I receive.
  6. Go to company classes to teach various levels from beginner to advance. Some use of text books, but the focus is on communication.
  7. Ability to quickly adapt if students are becoming bored. Awareness of what students want to study and how they want to study. Some teachers just teach without really thinking about if the student is getting anything out of the class. Other skills needs is proper lesson prep without cutting corners.
  8. Advice to those wanting to get into teaching - You must first love dealing with people and have patience. If you prefer to spend your hours in front of the PC, then don't go and teach.

I don't have any special equipment or tools. These are all provided by the schools or the classroom. That is, photocopiers, whiteboard, markers, CD players and so on.

Other jobs I could get after teaching I suppose would be hospitality jobs where you deal with people. Also proof-reading, translation (if you picked up another language), essay writing, student counseling.

Off to bed now. Good night.
