travel insurance

Looking at the range of options, I'm just baffled which travel insurance option to go with? Do I buy travel insurance locally before flying out or do I purchase it at my final desitination?

free travel insurance with gold card

If you have a Gold Visa or MasterCard then be sure to purchase your airline ticket with this. Most probably, your credit card will then extend to you free travel insurance. I know mine does, and it's valid for 6 months!

Travel Insurance

If you work in Taiwan legally, then you will automatically be enrolled in the National Health Insurance scheme. Usually the schools will then subsidise the fee and you will only pay a small percentage.

In Japan, there are many private insurance companies that offer insurance to expatriates, so I would recommend checking these out.

Yes, there is also the alternative of using your Gold credit card to get complimentary travel insurance.

Thumbs up IAPA Membership

Hello All,

You may want to consider IAPA Membership if you don't have a gold card. The prices are very reasonable. You can see further information at www.aggregate-finance.com/iapa.htm.

It may be a worthwhile alternative for many.
  • Up to $2,000,000 on travel accident insurance.
  • Protection that quickly retrieves lost luggage, keys and other valuables. Available thru IAPA Bag and Key Guardâ.

Other than that, I think you can buy insurance online. Does do a search in Google etc. This alternative works out to be about $3 a day which I think can be a little expensive.

I use my gold credit card also for travel insurance. Works great! But check with your visa company to the length of insurance offered. Some travel insurance only lasts up to 3 months.

With my travel insurance, I have to pay the first USD200. So doesn't help me much if I go for a checkup. It's really only good for hospitalisation.
