Unhappy Tired English Teacher

Hi There!

I've been teaching English in Korea now for 5 years, and as much as I'd love to go back home, what would I do?

I graduated from Uni in a Science degree, but have forgotten all there is that I learnt. I have no experience back home. My only experience is teaching English in Korea. I'm tired of teaching and entertaining.

Anyone been in the same boat? Any ideas?

Why don't you teach a group of students back home? Just do a TESL course if you haven't done one, and many English schools back home are quite fun. Usually they will be adult students from Japan, Korea, China or Europe. The class sizes are larger too and a lot of fun.

I would have to agree with Bell Bird. Alternative would be office work in such a school.

Teaching English should have given you a huge range of people skills, time management and other soft skills that can easily pass onto other industry. Brainstorm your strengths, keep positive and I'm sure you will be able to find something you like.

Hi tired English teacher - too bad I saw this post so long after you've posted it. Hope you've found that new career.

I've trained a lot of tired English teachers over the last 12 years who wanted to do something else with their superb teaching and communication skills. I found that they make great technical writers - you can use many of the same skills that you've learned as an English teacher - and the training period, at least in our program, is only about 5 months.

Best Regards,

I have the same feeling with you. That's why I became a recruitor rather than teaching the children. Here, we dont just entertain the children, we have to entertain the parents and our boss, too. Since you have the expierence of teaching, you know what teacher wants. You can become a recruitor to help other teachers to get the benifits they deserve.

Life after teaching

Good idea houmickey. Have thought about recruiting too. I actually come from a HR background, so I suppose I could recruit in other industries too.

Is the money better? It can be a little stressful though as you need to work on commissions right?

The money is not as much as being a teacher, but at least it's regular hours and no preparation before class. commission? I dont know, I think that depends on agency. like my agency, no commission, free to teacher, and we have to help the teachers to apply for all the require docuements. after the teacher arrived, we'll have to take care of the teachers until they're familiar with the area. you can check out my company's website and consider about my suggestion. Becoming a recruiter

Thanks for your info houmickey. Seems recruiting English Teachers isn't as high a pay as recruiting IT staff or other tech guys.

Well, it's good I wont have to prepare lessons and all that if I were a recruiter. Thanks for highlighting this option.

It seems like your looking for a well paid job here. Where are you right now? Are you willing to relocate? If you like, I can tell you about the teaching jobs in Taiwan. Most recruitor never teach before. The reason they become a recruitor is they're not qualify to be a teacher. so if your willing to relocate, I might be able to hook you up with some jobs here. If you can tell me what kind of job qualification your looking for, maybe if you relocated to taiwan, we might even become good friends. lol.
