Taiwan bank accounts and tax

I've recently started a part-time teaching job in Taiwan. (Cram School).

When I arrived, the headmaster told me that if I open a bank account in Taiwan - I'd have to pay more tax.

That sounds odd - is it true?

What is the situation with paying tax anyway? - someone else said I pay when I leave (as opposed to PAYE). What's the formula that relates monthly salary to tax? (tax thresholds, minimum.. etc.).
