![]() | Hello all, I haven't logged on here for ages. But now I have more reasons to. I've finally received a job offer from a Japanese company to start work in Japan next March to teach English after a million applications. I think it's all very exciting. I can't wait... I have tonnes of questions but I shall start with buying airfares. It's not in their tradition I understand to pay for our airfares though I know some might. My job offer is for 13 months which is great. The problem it poses is that most open air tickets are only for a year. The company suggested that I buy a return open ticket anyways and use it for holiday time to come back home. I think that it's a grand idea except that I think I would be spending more right? I mean if I buy a return ticket and come back home for a quick holiday, that will mean that I need to purchase another ticket back to Japan. Wouldn't that cost me double logically? The reason I was given is that it might be more expensive to buy a one way ticket IN Japan back to Australia, though I am saving heaps if I only bought a one way ticket here in the coming months. Am I making sense. Could someone shed a light to this? I'm only thinking that I might like to stay longer than 13 months that's all. ![]() |

![]() | First of all, good work on getting a nice English teaching job in Japan! I'm sure you will enjoy your teaching job. You will find that open ended tickets are quite expensive. Futhermore, I don't think they go longer than 12 months. Japan would not allow you into the country with just a tourist visa and no outbound ticket. In fact, you wouldn't even be able to checkin to your flight in your home country. Best would be to buy a return ticket but BEFORE paying, ask your travel agent what would be the fees involved with changing the return date. There may only be a small fee of around $80 or so do change the return date. If this is possible, then case solved. You will find that a one-way ticket is not really all that much cheaper than a return ticket. Do let me know how it goes. Just call up your travel agent and ask them this question. If no luck, I can then suggest other alternatives. |
