![]() | New Fella Hi everyone. Firstly I must say thank you to the people that take the time to answer questions. Reading the responses gives me a little insight to getting started. I have recently caught the "travel bug" and I am thinking of joining the teaching fraternity. But like most I have a few concerns and I would be very appreciative of any current teachers opinions. I'm 35 and currently working as Clinical Sales rep for a Ultrasound Co. I’ve been employed in 2 medical sales position for about 6 years and in both positions I have been required to teach Clinicians how to use medical equipment, currently Ultrasound. I have a Ba of App Science and am looking at doing one of the teaching courses. (What is the best to gain employment?). I was thinking of Japan, but I am pretty open. I will have money behind me but I don't want to struggle financially when I’m there and Id like to be able to save a little, is this possible? Also I am a big fella, at about 6ft 2 and 120kgs, I’ve done quite a lot of weight training over the years and I fear that this may intimidate my students. So...What is the best course to get started? Will I save money? Where is the best place to go? Will I scare them? How do I get a job? Do I go over on a holiday after I have gained my qualification or do apply before I leave? Sorry to be long winded, but that should cover it. Last edited by gfell; Sun 20-Aug-06 at 03:31 PM. |

![]() | Hi BIG AD, So you want to teach in Asia somewhere? Have you been to Asia before? I think you should choose the country you have most interests in, as most of the countries you can save pretty much the same amount. The more you learn about the culture, the more you will surely enjoy your chosen country! Sure, the salary in China is much lower, but so are the expenses. There are teachers in China that can save the same amount as teachers in Japan or Korea. As you're a big fella, you will definitely get a lot of stares in Asia. I wouldn't go so far to say that your students and peers will be scared of you however. Have seen much crazier customs during my travels, such as gothics and fairies walking the streets in some of the bigger cities. Your big presence will most likely create amazement with those around you. They will be interested to hear your stories and talk to you. So don't worry about your size. Just be warned that you WILL NOT be able to shop for clothes or shoes in Asia. Usually the largest shoe size is 27.5 cm. Get your teaching certificate, and then start emailing employers about 3 weeks prior to your arrival. Don't worry if you don't get anything before setting foot in your chosen country. As soon as you land, you will surely find a lot of job offers due to your qualifications. Hope this info has helped!
