![]() | Morality Issue Hi guys! Am a newbie in here tho I've been a member a few months back. Am still groping my way around here and how this works too. And this is my first post so far. I just wanna know if in your country of origin or the country where you are in right now, getting pregnant without the benefit of marriage is enough ground to kick a teacher out of her teaching post? It is in here. Hope to hear from you. Thanks |

![]() | Re: Morality Issue I think you'll find in most developed countries, falling pregnant is NOT grounds for dismissal. This is discrimination with heavy penalties. In Australia, maternity leave must be made available to the employee.

It's kinda archaic thinking but who am I to criticise that countrys morality problems. I think, if you're Chinese and a teacher, it would lead to problems too because, legally, one isn't allowed to have a baby without being married here. I'd expect the rules to be different for foreign teachers here. I hope that it's not the case with you and if it is, I know there's a lot of social stigma attached to having a child out of wedlock in the Philippines. Whatever your situation, good luck! Kevin.

![]() | Re: Morality Issue You're right studynz, we are a Christian dominated country and I agree with exported kiwi about the social stigma attached to being one. It is indeed quite archaic but this is our way and this is ... us. Thanks guys ! |

| ESL Rookie ![]() | Re: Morality Issue Yeah it really does matter where you are, I have heard of some people being fired for getting pregnant but that was with a reasonably dodgy organisation and the point was that she could not finish her contract because she would have to take Maternity leave. |
