![]() | Looking for advice Hi all, I recently was made unemployed in England and I have had a desire to travel and possibly teach in a foreign country. My preffered area is Taiwan. This is where i hit the stumbling blocks. Although I have some qualifications to NVQ level 2 that is about it. I dont mind retraining and was wondering If I could work whilst gaining these. Im currently doing a lot of National Vocation Qualifications on Child developement mainly for a role in Social support work with ages 8-15. Would these qualification be deemed sufficient, or basically would i require to retrain in another specific area of expertise. As for personal Information Im a 28 year old Male, UK passport Holder if that is at all relevent. I would be grateful for any information on which steps to take to pursue this dream. Thanks in advance Kai118 |

![]() | Re: Looking for advice If your intention is to teach English then you should at least become TESL/TEFL certified. In most places the basic requirements for entry level teaching positions are a degree plus a TESL/TEFL certificate. Being certified will make you more marketable and it will also, and perhaps more importantly, prepare you for the job. Online courses offer a great training opportunity at entry level. They can provide a thorough grounding in a new career and the right tools to approach a new profession within a manageable amount of time and finances. They are a good option particularly if you have a limited budget to further your studies or if you have other work and/or family commitments that restrict the amount of time you have available to study. The fact that you don’t have a B.A. might be a problem when it comes to obtaining your work permit. As far as I know the Taiwanese government approve work permits on the strength of a Bachelor's degree (an Associate degree with a TESOL/TEFL Certificate may also be accepted) and a valid passport from: AUS, CAN, NZ, SA, UK, USA, IRE. Hope this helps
