![]() | I need help! Hello! I am a new ESL teacher that just finished a certificate program for non-native learners. I landed my first job right away to tutor two boys (10 and 13 years old) for 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. I am in need of help - HOW DO I TEACH 1-to-2 for FOUR HOURS EVERY DAY??? I am used to methodologies that follow certain patterns in the classroom, but most of them require students to talk to each other before sharing with the class. With these two little brothers, I don't know how I can keep up for four straight hours without burning out. And, with different proficiency level, is it appropriate to separate their lessons? Or should I teach them together at all times? I need help, and fast. Teachers, give me words of advice please!! Thanks a lot! |

![]() | Re: I need help! Well, your post is from many months ago, so I guess that either you've figured some things out or you are no longer tutoring the boys! If you still need help, I would suggest playing games with them, reading books together, going for walks and identifying everything you see, teaching them songs, doing some crafts together (in English of course). Are you in the US? Take them to the local public library and get them library cards! Most public libraries here have free internet access for members, and there are lots of ESL games and sites on the computer that would be great for kids to do for an hour or so of your time together. Look at these links: Easy English ~ free online English tests Elementary English exercises Easy Things for Beginners (Interesting Things for ESL Students) Hope that helps! |
