How do you call back home? - ESL Teaching

What does everyone recommend? Skype? Yahoo chat? or what? There are some good phone cards, however some are cheap and nasty.

Amy recommended skype. I will give them a go.

Keep clear of the really cheap phonecards. It will only stress you out!

I've just signed up for Skype myself and am very impressed with the quality. Works out to be 0.017 Euros or around 3c to call back home. My mum couldn't notice any difference in quality when I spoke to her the other day.

Thumbs up. I remember 10 years ago when I first went overseas, I was only able to speak for 10 minutes and $10 later in charges.

Skype's not bad, although if you're just doing computer to computer MSN often works just as well. Another program you might want to try is Googletalk.

What is the best way to call home. I am from America and I will be calling most of my families cell phones. I am in Lanzhou china. Which Skype plan should I be looking at buying.

Definitely Skype! You should also get yourself a SkypeIn number that is local in the US. So when your friends / family call this local US number, it will call your PC. All for the cost of a local call and untimed. Can't get better than that.

Skype is very good, it is free if you're calling someone who is signed onto Skype at the same time. But it is also very cheap to call someone from your Skype account to their home phone or cell phone, very very very cheap. Way cheaper than any phone card.
