Health insurance

I know most of the jobs I see posted list health insurance as a benefit. Do those of you with some experience here find that the insurance is adequate? Does this seem to vary by country?

Does anyone feel the need to buy some kind of supplemental insurance in case of a major accident?

Re: Health insurance

I don't see any need to buy supplemental insurance. Of course, it will probably differ from country to country.

In Japan, when working full-time with a school, you will be provided national health insurance (fees deducted from your salary). This allows for hospitalization, and seeing a doctor when needed. In Japan, it costs less than US10 to see a doctor as the insurance covers the rest. Hence, no need to get extra supplemental insurance as it would only be a waste of your money.

A good idea is if you hold a Gold Visa or MasterCard, then use this to buy your airline ticket. Gold credit cards usually offer free travel insurance when purchasing an airline ticket with them.

Re: Health insurance

It does vary from country to country, but most have some kind of insurance, some are paid for by the employer and others require you pay a protion of it, but overall most do have the option.

Re: Health insurance

My experience is that many times the employer do cover the health insurance but it is a co-pay (portion paid by you and rest by employer). For each visit to the doctor you have to pay some minimal amount and the rest is taken care. Deductions are made from your salary as well.

However the health insurance many times covers only part of health insurance. As an example - Mostly Dental insurance is not covered with any health insurance and you have to make sure you are aware of this and other aspects.
