They are cracking down and if you dont have a 4 year degree, you wont be able to work there. It use to be an open door but now its closed. Thailand for example checks if degrees are fakes or not, they put all degrees under a microscope, gone are the days that fake gets one a working visa. If you had the 4 year degree along with the Tesol you are more valuable then without the Tesol. Too many problems have forced the crackdown and a lot of good teachers without that degree are now out of work. S. Koreans discovered a site from 2 men offering ESL lessons in exchange for sex. That led to riots in Seoul, good teachers with no degrees loosing their jobs and forced to leave the country ASAP. Thailand closed the door on false papers, others followed suit. My best advice is to go back to school and complete the 4th year, get that degree and then write your own ticket to a terrific teaching career anywhere in the world. | |

![]() | Re: Getting a job without a degree Would a Bachelor degree pretty well open doors in the future or will there be a time when a Masters will be necessary. There Is a limit on what schooling can do without actual experience. |

![]() | Re: Getting a job without a degree Yeh, sure you can get a job without a degree, but you are limiting yourself to the bottom of the barrel jobs. Obviously the more qualifications you have under your belt, the easier it is for you to quash the competition and grab the high hanging fruit. |

| Senior Member ![]() | Re: Getting a job without a degree skydolphin, yes, a bachelors is quite adequate now, in China....but from what I hear, there's going to be a "tightening" of the screws here too sometimes in the future, regarding fake degrees and also whether or not, China actually needs foreign teachers at all! I get this from a friend whose father is in the politburo. Hope it doesn't happen or there will many dedicated and good teachers expelled because of a piece of paper, some friends among them....I've quietly put a word in my friends ear so she can pass it to her Father, in the hopes that it'll alleviate some of the anxieties here....will keep you all informed. Take care y'all!

![]() | Re: Getting a job without a degree Just one small point about visa requirements. Before you mail your degree, make a photocopy, take the original, the photocopy, your transcripts and ID to your local Korean embassy, and they will put an official stamp on the photocopy for about US $2.50. Mail the certified photocopy to the school, NOT your original. They can keep that but you still have your original. It's a lot less hassle than getting a dupicate copy from your university. I actually requested my last school to return my certified phohtocopy so I could use it for the next job. |
