Getting a job without a degree

Hey guys, I want to teach english in Asia (Taiwan, Thailand, China, Japan). I've been to university for about three years, but didn't get a degree. I have a TESOL cert.

Question is: Is it still possible to get a job without a degree?

Thanks in advance.....Brabdock

Teaching Overseas without a degree

If you want to teach in Korea, Japan, Taiwan or Hong Kong, then 95% of the times you will require a university degree in order to get a visa.

Japan you can get a working holiday visa up until the age of 30 regardless of whether you have a degree or not. It will depend also on what passport you hold as not all countries have this agreement with Japan.

There are also teachers teaching under the radar by enrolling in Chinese classes in Taiwan. Tuition fees for Chinese classes are very reasonable, and it seems the authorities are so strict on enforcing you adhere to the activities of the correct visa stamped in your passport.

China, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia are more relaxed with the rules of requiring teachers to hold a minimum degree. Will largely depend on the employer and their power within society.

Teaching in china

I live and teach in China. You only need a degree if you want to work in a university or want a residence visa. You will not be able to find work in Hong Kong as they require the degree. Hopes this helps!

Question think about it

The market is already saturated.Do your research before you make any kind of decision.Jobs are few and far between, make sure you go to an area with opportunities.

Re: Getting a job without a degree

You can get a great job without a degree, but like it was stated earlier, you need to do your research before going. There are lots of jobs out there that you can obtain without a degree.

Trying searching online for possible employers in Korea, China, Thailand, and Japan. They usually list the requirements for a particular teaching job. Being a native English speaker is usually a plus.

Re: Getting a job without a degree

Yes you can search all of these places and rest assured you will find one that is willing to hire you without a degree. Be sure to really up play all of your experience, you may have to do a little more to impress than someone with a degree, but it is not impossible.

Re: Getting a job without a degree

To legally work in China you need a Z visa which is turned into a residence permit upon arrival. To obtain a Z visa you need a degree. Otherwise, you are working here illegally.
