![]() | Encouraging Sports as a Career for Students Sports and teaching go hand to hand. Students while playing various sports at the school level decide to pursue sports as a career and become a sportsperson. It is very important for us - teachers - to encourage students to participate actively in sports. Benefits are many and the main among them can be - it teaches the terms - "Win" and "lose" Your thoughts please. |

![]() | Re: Encouraging Sports as a Career for Students Only a small percentage of people go onto becoming professional sports players. Rather than encouraging sports as a career, sports should be encouraged as a means of meeting people, developing social skills and improving health. Nowadays too many students are spending their free time in front of the PC or playing TV games rather than being out there engaging in sports. Thank goodness the internet wasn't around when I was a kid!

![]() | Re: Encouraging Sports as a Career for Students I dont agree totally - its better to get students, at a very young age, aim for future. If I tell a new generation kid to play sports for health or recreation purpose then he might just have second thought. Kids look up to Youth Icons and then decide to pursue career. So proper guidance to develop sports as a career can be fruitful. Physical Training as a subject is kept in schools to make sure the students not only play outdoor and indoor games to develop their physical and mental fitness but also to let the teachers identify students who are best in sports and to guide them for future. |

![]() | Re: Encouraging Sports as a Career for Students Academics are much more important as both a classroom focus and a career focus. What is the real likelihood that you will ever - in your whole career as a teacher - actually have a future sports professional in your class? Compare that to people who are successful in other fields. |

![]() | Re: Encouraging Sports as a Career for Students This is a classic scenario - perception is the problem. Hence I told that teachers are responsible for identifying the sporting abilities among students. Teachers and parents many times try to encourage students to have outdoor activities but the encouragement is lacking to pursue career with sports. The pressure to succeed in academics is too much which takes the toll. |
