![]() | Am I too old? Hellooooo I know what they say - age is only a number, however, I would like to teach O/S and hopefully will get to go sometime next year or the year after. Next year I will be 38 - am I pushing it? |

![]() | Re: Am I too old? In my opinion, definitely no. I only see a very small handful of schools requiring you to be under 38. So you don't need to worry. Once you get to over 45 it may be a different case for some countries. All depends also on what country you go to. Japan has many much older teachers... and you would be surprised. The cost of living in Japan is cheaper than Australia too contrary to many's opinion. Traveling throughout Japan may be expensive, but living in Japan is rather affordable.

![]() | Re: Am I too old? Yeah, I'd have to agree with gfell. Sometimes (depends on the situation) age is even valued, as it equates to more perceived experience. 38 is still a fine age for teaching. |

![]() | Re: Am I too old? Hey... I retired from primary school teaching in 2004, got my TESOL qualification in 2006, did a 3-month contract in China later in 2006, then a 5-month contract in 2007 also in China -- after turning 60. I have a choice of 3 short-term contracts in 2008 at 61! So, don't even think about being "over the hill" yet, mate. |
