Re: Cairo - Salary

Are you sure you are being paid USD3000 a month + accommodation provided? Because in Egypt, the average annual salary is less than USD4000 per year.

Expect hustle and bustle as Cairo is one of the largest cities in the world with around 20 million people! There is a wide gap in wealth, from those that earn millions a year to those that earn less than $20 a month.

Government jobs with good job security pay less than $200 per month. Probably the average salary for a university graduate with a few years experience is about $300 per month. So I would question it very much if you are being paid $3000 a month + accommodation provided.

In the past 10 years, the quality of life for Egyptians has definitely improved, however there is still quite a lot of poverty, and you will no doubt see this when you are there. Traffic is really bad and travelling short distances can take you hours.

Checkout the photo of the street in Cairo. Now this should give you an idea of what to expect.
