Traveling Opens the Mind

Stop Working, Pack Your Bags and Go!

Who said "traveling opens the mind"? I'm sure that whomever it was lived a fantastic life.

They say that education teaches you how to earn a living BUT travel teaches you how to live. Having seen the sunrise in 25 countries, I couldn't agree more.

If I became Prime Minister tomorrow, everyone would soon see the truth behind these words. I would immediately write a new law called "Stop Working, Pack Your Bags and Go!", requiring every citizen to leave their country and travel for at least a month. Anywhere! Anyone who refused would be forced to endure watching a month of game-shows on television.

Afterwards, I'm sure the result would be nothing short of a revolution; a real explosiion in awareness and understanding of the outside world.

As an English teacher in Japan, I'm sure my students would start returning home and saying:
- Do you know that rush-hour in Paris, they actually drive on the pavement?

- In Australia, most workers leave the office at 5:30! Why are we still working at midnight?

- In New Zealand, I was sipping wine on a sun-drenched beach within 30 minutes of leaving the city! And they have a woman Prime Minister? Why can't we?

- Would you believe there are actually classes in England teaching women how to start their own business? I want to take my wife but she is still watching game shows.
Too many of my friends back home in the UK have never travelled abroad. What a shame this is. We should learn more from the Japanese as they are such keen travellers.

My experiences travelling and teaching have certainly made my life an adventure. I really do suggest for ALL new teachers to jump at the chance to teach abroad.
