first teaching interview

Welcome aussimonsean,

Congratulations on setting up your first interview. Things to keep in mind for the interview would be:
  • Talk clearly and slowly
  • Have a short lesson plan that you can implement should you be asked to give a demo lesson.
  • Use body language and relax
  • Tell the interviewers of past experience you have had in tutoring or dealing with people. Even in the IT industry, you can mention that you've been involved in training new staff etc.
Am sure you will be fine. Just remember the above points.

Big chain schools like Nova, ECC, Berlitz and AEON are not necessarily bad or look bad on your resume. They are professional organisations that wont scam the teacher. The hourly wage may be lower than elsewhere, but they will look after you and are a great stepping stone before heading out to corporate classes, high schools and universities. You will also get the opportunity to meet other teachers at these schools and share thoughts.

There are other jobs in Japan with other companies. Just check the jobs for teaching in Japan forum.

All the best!
