Be The Answer

Best advice anyone ever gave me - "Be the Answer they are looking for." If you know what the school is looking for - and you should by looking over enough job ads that list requirements - then only put in what they are looking for.

For instance, gfell had a great example about not putting in all the stuff that didn't matter - but I'll say you should go a step farther and ONLY put in what they want to hear. For me, I only say that I have a BA, that I'm TEFL certified, have nearly four years teaching experience IN CHINA, and have studied Chinese formally for one year.

I do NOT list all the other jobs I have had before or even during the times I have worked in China if it does not fit what they are looking for. Be selective. What jumps out to them is the puzzle piece that fits perfectly - people pay for answers to problems; therefore, be the answer to their problem of needing a teacher.
