Personally, I'd happily go to Afghanistan if the salary was high enough and it was in a supposedly "green' zone. I was there in 03 with the NZ army so I can handle myself well enough and bangs don't bother me too much any more. I'd hope to be given permission to be armed so I could defend myself though!
