Yes, that's spot on for the average Vietnamese person. And we're talking $3,500 for 1 year's salary! Foreign teachers though will get more, otherwise no-one would go there. Expect around $12~$15 / hour without housing included.

Try doing a search in the Jobs Worldwide forum with the keyword "Vietnam". It will pull up a heap of jobs in Vietnam giving you an indication of what you're to expect for your remuneration.
