Re: How to get private students

Rather than spelling out the obvious of checking out job ads, why don't you place ads on local community announcement boards? I have done this in the past and also advertised in the local magazine / newsletter. You'd be suprised at the amount of money you can make when you start getting your own students.

Word of mouth is also very powerful. Let your Chinese friends no you are available for private lessons. Try and setup a nice room in your apartment for lessons and treat it as a business. First step would be to get privates... then move on and get groups, which is where the real money is.

It's all about marketing yourself. Don't go to recruiters or simply apply to job ads. This is where the lower lower end of the money is. Take the initiative and get your name out there. Community halls often have noticeboards where you can place your free ad.
