I only have experience in China...
It's easy to find a job here. Finding a good one can be difficult though. If you go for China, I'd skip Beijing and Shanghai--that's where most people go for jobs, and the usually the good ones are taken.
I've heard Taiwan pays better, but I'm not sure what the standard of living is. As for horror stories, I think I've heard an even ratio on both sides.
