Very sad to hear things worked out like this. Sounds like something that should be on TV.

The way you treat others, is eventually the way you will be treated yourself. The way he is treating you now will only nip him back in the bum someday. His win today, but in the long run, he will suffer. Let him have his fun now, explain to him how you have been let down, and then leave.

Don't do the payback thing... just sounds childish to me. What you give in life is what you ultimately get.
