I'm also a writer... occasionally a poet. I haven't found too many others around here, but also haven't been actively looking. Never heard of any open mike nights, but you'd probably have better luck in places like Shanghai, Yangshuo, and Kunming. There might be a few cafes around Shenzhen where you could arrange something... I'd certainly be willing to get together with other writers around here--it might motivate me to write more.
