Schools used to be quite generous and offer airfares upfront. By that I mean, they send you your ticket in anticipation of you arriving. Unfortunately, there will always be bad apples around, and some teachers would either arrive and leave the school a week later, or simply just go into hiding at the airport and treat it as a cheap holiday.

Nowadays the airfare is typically reimbursed upon the completion of a 12-month teaching contract. Some schools also will pay part of the airfare only, with the teacher paying the other part.

Receiving the airfare really should only be considered as a bonus. More important is to ensure you are going into the right school.

Nothing wrong with completing half your teacher training online when overseas. If you have never taught before, it's good to be upfront with the school, so that way they can buddy you up with another teacher before being placed in a classroom by yourself.
